Within the exclusive Barefoot Beach Garden community, our firm led the complete design-build transformation of this four-story, 10,000-square-foot beachfront estate.
The primary architectural challenge was to resolve a disjointed layout, where a detached living area and dual staircases created a significant disconnect. Our goal was to unify the home with a common, intuitive circulation path, creating a seamless experience worthy of showcasing an expansive private art collection.
To serve as a gallery-like backdrop for the art, the home’s contemporary aesthetic was defined by an absolute commitment to architectural minimalism. Working with Miami-based interior designer Maite Granda, the design is exemplified by a sophisticated package from Apure Lighting, featuring their one-inch MINUS mud-in fixtures. This trimless philosophy is executed flawlessly throughout, with flush door jambs and no baseboards or visible HVAC grills, creating monolithic surfaces perfect for displaying art. A sense of warmth and vertical cohesion is introduced through stained oak panel walls that span every level, cleverly concealing the home’s elevator. This motif continues in the grand staircases, which feature minimalist glass railings capped with stained oak handrails, and underfoot with magnificent 12-inch wide, 12-foot long planks of Brazilian White Oak flooring.
The bathrooms are conceived as contemporary sanctuaries, clad floor-to-ceiling in large-format Porcelanosa porcelain tile for a sleek, low-maintenance finish. In the study, a custom-stained slat wall artfully conceals a television. Modern convenience is managed by a complete Control4 smart home system, integrated alongside all-new infrastructure and a whole-home generator. The project’s resilience was put to the test as construction endured multiple hurricanes, a challenge our team successfully navigated, which included the complete reconstruction of the property’s outdoor tiki hut and private beach boardwalk. The result is a landmark estate where architectural ingenuity has transformed a fragmented house into a unified sanctuary that functions as both a sophisticated private art gallery and a resilient beachfront home.
